MBR (Advanced Membrane Bio-Reactor)

The membrane bioreactor series represents advanced black and grey wastewater treatment solutions for all vessels.  All Evac MBR units are IMO MARPOL MEPC 159(55) certified and also USCG certified.

The Evac standard MBR is also available as a combined unit with vacuum generation integrated.

The Evac MBR features low power consumption, owing to its low pressure submerged membranes.  The quality of effluent is extremely high in all sea conditions and exceeds all current specifications.

Advantages:

  • Available with or without vacuum creation
  • No dilution water required
  • No disinfection required
  • No dechlorination required
  • 10+ years expected lifetime for membranes
  • Low operation costs
  • Simple treatment process
  • Easy to operate
  • No continuous chemical consumption

Operation

The Evac MBR is based on proven, very low maintenance membrane bioreactor technology, which is capable of filtering out particles as small as bacteria.

The treatment process consists of three phases:

  • Pre-treatment
  • Biological process
  • Membrane filtration

Clean water is separated from the biomass by membrane filtration.  Evac MBR membranes are submerged flat-sheet type membranes.  The pressure difference for the membrane filtration is only around 30 mbar; such a small amount of pressure acting on the membranes guarantees them an extremely long lifetime.  The treated water does not need any further disinfection and can be discharged directly into the sea.

The Evac MBR does not require any back-flushing or constant chemical cleaning, making it the most economical and maintenance-friendly membrane solution.  The effluent quality is so good that it could be reused.
